Hello Paddlers, Hikers, Campers and Outdoor Enthusiasts,

We thought it was a good time to let you know about some of the changes that have come to the Temagami Cluster of Parks permitting system. Important information for all upcoming trips or anyone planning a 2025 Temagami adventure.

The Temagami Cluster of Parks has a new reservation system for backcountry canoe camping.

Here's the lowdown:
  • Instead of a general backcountry registration, you now reserve a "lake(s) zone" for each night of your trip. Imagine choosing a neighbourhood instead of a particular house – it gives you a general area to explore and find a great camping spot.
  • Plan ahead with confidence: You can make reservations up to five months in advance. This means you can plan your trip with peace of mind, knowing you have a guaranteed spot within the Temagami Cluster park zone and can focus on other exciting aspects of your adventure, like packing your gear and dreaming of starry nights.
  • Find a campsite: Once you arrive in your chosen zone, you can scout out the best available campsite on a first-come, first-served basis. This gives you the freedom to find a spot that truly suits your needs and preferences. Perhaps you're looking for a secluded spot by the water, a sunny clearing with a view, or a campsite close to a portage trail.
"Why will this make my trip better?"
  • Campsite confidence: No more worrying about finding a site at the end of your day, enjoy paddling with your friends knowing there will be a campsite available for your group . The zone reservation system ensures that there will be a site for you within the zone if you have reserved within it.
  • Spreading out campers: Visitors will be more evenly distributed throughout the parks, reducing overcrowding in some areas and minimizing the impact on sensitive ecological areas. This ensures a more peaceful and enjoyable experience for all campers and helps protect the delicate wilderness environment.
  • Larger groups will be able to spread out among different sites: When a group exceeds the maximum group size for sites, as is often the case with camp/youth/scouts groups, they will be able to reserve multiple spots within a zone.

In a nutshell: The new system offers a meaningful balance of planning and flexibility. You have the security of a reserved area, while still enjoying the thrill of the unknown and the freedom to discover a wonderful campsite.

Bottom Line:
  • Reservations open five months in advance of your chosen dates: When planning your trip, you are able to book your zones as early as 5 months out. As of right now (January, 2025) you are able to book in zones for June, 2025. February will allow you to book for July etc. We love this new planning tool, and encourage our clients and friends to book early to ensure that their zones are available for their desired dates.

Still have questions? Call or email Erik and he will be more than happy to walk you through the process and help book your boats and plan your trip. Can't wait to see you all this summer!
